Gael Kuhn is a Product Manager for TeraRecon which is the largest independent, vendor neutral medical image viewing solution provider with a focus on advanced image processing innovation.

TeraRecon provides world class advanced visualization 3D post-processing tools, as well as a spectrum of enterprise medical image viewing, diagnostic interpretation, image sharing, interoperability and collaboration solutions. TeraRecon iNtuition and iNteract+ solutions advance the accessibility, performance, clinical functionality and medical imaging workflow throughout many areas of the healthcare ecosystem.

As a Product Manager with a broad spectrum of skills in healthcare, programming and bio engineering from his university background (Medical University of Nancy (France), University of Ireland, Maynooth (Ireland)) and experience in various domains, Gael is now leading several innovative projects. These projects include 3D printing as a service, augmented reality for medical applications and artificial intelligence as well as enhancing the core product of TeraRecon for better image analysis and a more streamlined user experience

Gael also has a special interest in neuroscience and electrical signal analysis. He has worked on various related projects including a focus on epileptic diseases to better identify the origin of focal epileptic disease in the case of pharmaceutical negative response to surge the region of interest with minimally-invasive approaches.

As a biomedical engineer and programmer, Gael built a BCI (Brain Computer Interface) to train hyper-active kids to relax and control their emotion through several games all based on electrical brain wave analysis. His projects received multiple awards in academia and research.

Gael’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Full development of TeraRecon’s “3D Print Pack Portal”- a 3D printing workflow from end-to-end with the highestquality 3D printed medical models available in the healthcare market today. Using a single preexisting radiology platform (iNtuition) used by clinicians all around the world, the workflow removes the need to use STL files which have known limitations in term of format, color, multi-volume handling and workflow (provisional patent submitted).
  • A first-of-kind holographic proof of concept called “HoloPack Portal” which leverages augmented reality for medical use and is based on streaming technology which allows the end-user to render large file formats such as raw DICOM file. The augmented reality technology allow you to add virtual elements into your physical (real) environment in order to interactively investigate and explore the data. Potential uses include teaching in medical universities, in medical conferences to illustrate a specific case, in surgery to better understand a pathology, and for patient education. The future of this technology is to be used directly in the surgical theater to provide a better understanding of the pathology of interest in context of the patient.Gael’s mission is to continue bringing artificial intelligence and cloud into healthcare until we no longer think about the gap between human interaction and software behavior. The software will learn how and why the user interacts with it. It will then process the data as the user normally does and/or provides the assistance needed at a given time to be more efficient in daily tasks (ie. information and image analysis, reporting and a more holistic understanding of the patient .)
